Here is a summary of our Identity Theft coverage
In response to one of the fastest growing crimes in the country, Nationwide
is now offering an identity theft product.
Our product has a coverage and service component through our partnership
with ID Theft AssistSM. We are proud to link our product offering with the
ID Theft AssistSM comprehensive program. It is the broadest in the
industry, providing full recovery for even a suspected incident, including
a stolen wallet, lost credit card, etc. ID Theft AssistSM is the only
non-credit granting institution that has real-time, on-line access to
TransUnion's reports, allowing for an immediate start to a victim's
recovery.
Upon the customer's authorization, our service provides:
· Offers a 24/7-call center that captures all necessary information and
offers a live person to speak with at any time.
· Utilizes real-time technology, including on-line access to
TransUnion's credit report.
· Provides the FTC's uniform ID Theft affidavit, answers any questions
with regards to completing and submitting the affidavit to the proper
authorities, credit bureaus and creditors.
· Obtains list of creditors to be contacted; contacts them with
separate itemized fraudulent account statements for each fraudulent
occurrence. Assists the customer with itemizing.
· Reports or assists the customer in reporting the fraudulent activity
to the local authorities and the Federal Trade Commission.
· Notifies the three major credit-reporting agencies of the ID theft;
assists the customer in placing a "Fraud Alert" on their credit report.
· Helps the customer obtain and review a free copy of their credit
report from the other major credit-reporting agencies, Experian and
Equifax.
· Assists the customer with replacing driver's license, passport,
Social Security card, and any other identifying documentation.
· Provides the customer with an ID Theft Emergency Response KitTM .
· Educates the customer on how ID theft occurs and informs of
protective measures to take to avoid further occurrences.
· Translates whenever necessary in the event the caller is overseas and
needs help communicating with local police in order to file a report.
· Provides emergency cash advance to customers when theft occurred away
from home (credit card guarantee is needed from customer or family member).
· If imposter is apprehended by law enforcement and stands trial, plan
attorney will help draft a victim impact letter to the presiding judge.
· Helps to determine the best action to take against creditors or how
to best work with credit bureaus if they are not cooperative in removing
fraudulent entries from a credit report.
· Provides general advice for ancillary problems caused by ID theft.
· When needed, customer will be given access to up to three in-person
sessions per family with a provider to address emotional issues caused by
the theft.
Our Differentiation from the Competition
Several insurers have also marketed a service offering with their Identity
Theft loss protection. Other companies have partnered with third parties
that drop ship affidavits and other forms related to the loss occurrence
that must be filled out by the identity theft victim and subsequently sent
to a variety of parties. There is a significant amount of time required on
the part of the victim to execute these forms and to follow up, to ensure
